“SUN Community Schools in Multnomah County are full-service neighborhood hubs where the school and partners from across the community come together to make sure kids and families have what they need to be successful – in school and in life.”
Dear Ron Russell Families,
Ron Russell SUN Community School (RRMS SUN CS) supported and run by El Programa Hispano Católico, is a place where students find academic support, arts enrichment, skill-building opportunities, and recreational classes after school at no cost. All Ron Russell students are welcome and encouraged to participate in Extended Day activities through RRMS SUN CS, which offers a free meal for students each day and transport home by way of the RRMS Activity Bus to all bus riders. In addition to our Extended Day activities, SUN community schools help families connect to local resources such as, Case Management, ELL services, Rent & Energy Assistance, Housing, Food & Clothing Pantries, Mental Health services and much more!
All students must have a 2023/24 Student Registration Form on file to attend Extended Day activities. Please find this form here or in the RRMS Main Office. Complete, sign and return the form to the RRMS Main Office at any time during the school year. SUN is year round and the sessions are as follows:
- Fall: Oct 23rd – Dec 7th
- Winter: Jan 23rd – Mar 9th
- Spring: Apr 24th – June 8th
- Summer: June 10th – Aug 3rd
Activities are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis, with some exceptions (teacher referrals) and space is limited. Please don’t delay with registration and enrollment. Students will be placed in their preferred classes whenever possible, but there are no guarantees. Part of the SUN experience is trying new things, so we ask that students are open to exploring classes that may not have been their first choice. You just may discover a new talent!
The team at RRMS SUN Community School is looking forward to another great year of new opportunities and student success. Please check out our SUN Frequently Asked Questions for more information and don’t hesitate to contact the RRMS SUN office with your questions, ideas for student classes, or interest in volunteering with SUN. This is your Community School. Welcome!
Sincerely,
Anthony ZafraSUN Site Manager-Ron Russell Middle School
